This new work is evolving from my PhD artwork, where I continue to look at how the sensory handling of materials as an integral part of a creative practice, might offer a pathway into a deeper insight into our being in the world. I see this ongoing body of work as part of a continuum where I draw threads together from the early 2000s and now, endeavoring to merge past and present influences into some kind of metaphorical coherence. In particular I find the notion of a chrysalis as a window of becoming – intriguing. I return to it again and again in my work, moving from exterior to internal space, engaging with the interplay between silk, metal and time, observing how this intricacy unfolds yet understanding that it is as a Möbius strip – with neither beginning nor end.
